Candle By The Bed
The Story:
When we first began talking about doing this CD my wife asked if I was going to put Candle on it. I had pitched the song very little. I had been told that the first line about making love was a bit too direct, so it was pretty far down my list. I happened to get in touch with John McAndrew who had played keyboards on my album ‘Dakota Bound’. He was going to be in the area so I brought him into the studio. He did the piano and acoustic guitars and turned the song into one of my favorites on the disc.
There’s a candle on the night stand we light when we make love
The scent of jasmine sets the mood for what we’re thinking of
Troubles melt away as shadows flicker overhead
When we light the Candle By the Bed
The candle on the night stand sometimes cannot shine
It’s gentle flame in the hurricane of our daily lives
We rush to meet with deadlines we race to stay ahead
And we neglect the Candle By the Bed
The fire of love left unattended fades and slowly dies
Let’s fan the flame with tangled sheets and untangle our lives
The candle on the night stand is waiting patiently
To spring to life from the perfect match of you and me
A half moon is rising, a full night lies ahead
Tonight let’s light the Candle By the Bed
