I Know Right Where It Hurts

    The Story:
I was told at one pitch session that this song has “misplaced humor”. I had always loved the old pain reliever commercial that started, “I’m not a doctor but I play one on TV”. (If that’s not a qualified endorsement I don’t know what is!) I changed the line to: “I’m not a doctor and I’d never claim to be” and pitched the song that way for a while, but I went back to the original for the CD.

    ‘Scuse me for being rude
    I don’t mean to intrude
But what you’re going through couldn’t be clearer
May I pull up a chair
    I saw you sitting there
And I recognize that stare from my own mirror

I aint a doctor I don’t play one on TV
But I’m someone you can talk to and I think that’s what you need
Believe me I know right where it hurts
I know right where it hurts

Please tell me if I’m wrong
Half of your heart feels gone
It’s like he’s walking on the parts that are missing
    You wonder if and when
    You’ll ever trust again
And you could use a friend, well I’m here to listen

Your heart will mend in time
But in the meantime your heart can lean on mine

    (CHORUS OUT)
